International phone rental set to make sky-high roaming bills a thing of the past

~ Online mobile phone specialist, mPhone.co.uk, says increased demand is result of consumer dissatisfaction with roaming bills ~

Online mobile phone specialist mPhone.co.uk claims that consumer frustration with excessive international mobile tariffs is a contributing factor behind the success of its telephone rental service. The package, aimed at business and holiday travellers entering the UK from destinations across the globe, typically works out significantly cheaper than bringing a phone into the country.

Because the phone makes calls using a regular UK mobile package, such as Orange, T-Mobile or Vodafone, it doesn’t incur expensive roaming charges for making or receiving calls, as a phone brought into the UK with a roaming contract from a foreign carrier would. The traveller pays a deposit before the phone is delivered and then post-pays the bill when the phone is returned. If the average daily usage surpasses five pound per day the line rental is waived – otherwise it’s only one pound per day.

Rentals are simple to arrange, via the mPhone.co.uk Web site, and phones are delivered within 24 hours across the UK or two hours in London. mPhone finds that most travellers prefer to have their rental phone delivered to a UK address, such as a hotel or office. However, international delivery and collection from central London are both quite common.

“This service can be a useful tool for travellers,” explained Ali Mahmoud, managing director of mPhone Ltd. “Some people hire the phones as back up for important trips, others so they don’t have to invest in expensive calls from hotel phones. However, it makes sense to book the phone well in advance,” continued Mahmoud. “By doing this you can have your new number supplied early on. As a result, you are able to let all the interested parties have it in plenty of time. This ensures the logistics of the journey run smoothly,” he concluded.

Rented phones are provided with all the utilities expected on a modern mobile phone such as a camera, SMS, web surfing and e-mail. mPhone can also provide SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) card only rental, so the traveller can simply insert the rented card into his or her handset and gain all the benefits of a phone rental. Finally, the company can also provide business tools such as Blackberrys to rent on the same basis as a mobile phone. All phones are provided with a charger, in car charger, international adaptor, two batteries and a carry case.
